Dear Business Colleagues and Neighbors,
I’d love to change the world… but I don’t know what to do. So I’ll leave it up to you. – Ten Years After
I recently heard this song on the radio and it brought back memories of this babyboomer’s youth. Sad to say after all these years nothing much has changed in the world… so I just want to start by saying let’s all be kind to one another. That’s where peace begins. Just my two cents.
Well we kept on asking “where’s our summer weather?” Be careful what you wish for. We got it in late July, and then some! If you’re anything like me, I’ll take that over snow any day!
The Chamber’s next event is our Celebrity Softball Game on August 14th. Believe me when I tell you it is a game you don’t want to miss. So much fun. Last year’s game ended in a nail-biting 9th inning. The Celebrity team won, but watch out, the Lakers are looking to take back the title this year! All kidding aside, we all remember what the game is about. It’s to benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. So please come out and support this wonderful community event. Food for Thought:
“Going local does not mean walling off the outside world. It means nurturing locally owned businesses which use local resources sustainably, employ local workers at decent wages and serve primarily local consumers. It means becoming more self-sufficient and less dependant on imports. Control moves from the boardrooms of distant corporations and back into the community where it belongs.”
–Michael H. Shuman, author of the book Going Local
And remember… small businesses are crucial to our neighborhood. I’m tired of looking at vacant stores. Are you? Then use local businesses whenever you can.
Until next month…. Enjoy the rest of the summer.
