Welcome to Ronkonkoma!
Dear Business Colleagues and Neighbors,
“Nothing lasts forever, even cold November rain”
— November Rain, Guns ‘N Roses
Hard to believe it’s November already. I like to take one holiday at a time. So right now I’m focusing on Thanksgiving. For those who think and plan ahead please remember your local merchants when shopping for your upcoming holidays or planning an office holiday party. Visit the Ronkonkoma Chamber website www.ronkonkomachamber.com where you will find businesses that can help you get through the holiday season.
I know I’ve shared this with you before, but I feel it’s worthy of repeating:
For every $100 spent locally, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures. If you spend that in a national chain, only $43 stays here. Spend it online and nothing comes home.
Why? Local businesses tend to employ local residents, use other locally owned businesses for business and professional services, such as printing, graphic design and advertising-putting money back into the local community. Local businesses also tend to have a natural interest in their community’s long-term health and therefore make significant investments in the community. People are unaware of what happens to the money when they spend it… for the longest time, cheap has been better. But as a society, it appears we are starting to change that attitude.
The current economic times have reshaped and transformed all kinds of organizations, altering how they operate. Business, government, educational institutions, not-for-profit organizations – you name it. This transformation, as far reaching as it is rapid, is occurring across all sectors of the economy, all communities, classes of society, all continents, and all cultures. How many businesses do you know of that have revamped their product lines, were acquired or merged, located to a different or smaller facility, shut down operations, made sweeping budget cuts just in the past year alone. All that I have described have taken place right here in Ronkonkoma.
The Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce members strive to continue to bring value to our fellow Chamber members and business partners. The Chamber’s door is always open and we look forward to chatting with you on ways the Chamber can help your business, family, or organization. Feel free to contact me personally at 631-737-0489. We are all part of Ronkonkoma and together we all have something to offer and something to gain. I invite YOU to get involved and be a part of it.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we wish all of you a blessed Thanksgiving surrounded by those you love — family, friends, pets. If you know of someone who may not have those things, invite him or her over to share Thanksgiving with you. I know at our house, there’s always room for one more! Till next month….
